MO HealthNet for Kids (MHK) is Missouri's health insurance program for children. Eligible children are under the age of 19, are citizens or "eligible, qualified aliens," and have household incomes within certain guidelines. There are also MO HealthNet insurance programs available for pregnant women (MO HealthNet for Pregnant Women) and low-income parents (MO HealthNet for Families). For most families, MHK is provided at no cost. Families with higher incomes may have to pay a premium. There are no deductibles or co-payments.

There are a number of different ways to apply for MO HealthNet for Kids:

  1. You can now complete and submit an English MHK application online
  2. You can print an English, Spanish, Bosnian or Vietnamese application online. Printed applications can be mailed or taken into your local Family Support Division office (see addresses on next page).
  3. You can call your local Family Support Division office and ask them to mail you an
application (see phone numbers on next page).
  4. You can go to your local Family Support Division office to apply for MHK. (See addresses on next page.)

Legal Aid of Western Missouri's MHK Advocacy Project provides legal representation at no cost to families who are applying for or enrolled in MHK. Representation may involve assistance with the initial application or reinvestigation process or representation when an application is rejected or coverage is terminated. The Project can also assist in the appeals process if your child's health plan denies coverage for certain medical services or treatment. Legal Aid also accepts many other types of cases for representation, including adult Medicaid, housing, Social Security, defense for Municipal Court offenses, and domestic (including Orders of Protection and divorce) cases. If you need help with your MHK case or if you have other legal issues, you should call Legal Aid at 816-474-6750 to complete an intake interview.

MHK benefits are handled by four managed care health plans. You can choose which health plan you want to join when you enroll in MHK.
